Profile

I am a web developer and graphic designer with 6+ years experience. I have worked as a freelancer, as a part-time employee, and as a full-time employee, both in on-site and remote faculties. My employers and clientele have included brand names, government agencies, large corporations, non-profits, small online businesses, published novelists, and artists. My skill-set ranges from creative design to a grounded understanding of web-based markup and programming languages. I’m comfortable in both creative and technical settings, whether one-on-one or team-based. I work between mediums easily, being able to transfer a concept from a conceptual and visual stage (i.e. identity) to physical stage (i.e. print) and finally to a web-based and user-interface design stage (i.e. website or application).

I have a strong background in mobile web/UX design and open-source CMS (Content Management System) integration. I am as at home in creating Photoshop comps as I am browser-testing standards-compliant code. I believe I bring a creative edge with a grounded technical mind to any project. I take pride in the completion of something that is done right from the start, and is as good a lasting and usable solution as it is a visually appealing one.

Experience

MOOVWEB, 2010-PRESENT

As a full-time Front End Mobile Web Developer I have built the mobile sites for large and recognizable names including Sports Authority and Movies.com. Using specialized in-house tools for dynamically transforming code from a pre-existing desktop site, I make technical and creative decisions to transform a desktop site into a smooth and consistent experience for devices based in iOs and Android. This involves a deep understanding of common web practices and their mobile equivalents, and doing so in a fast-paced environment that constantly receives client feedback.

Arizona Geological Survey, 2010

The AZGS (Arizona Geological Survey) is the primary source of information relating to geology, mineral resources, and land development in Arizona. As a part-time graphic and web designer under the umbrella of the AZGS, I have worked on projects ranging from national geothermal energy initiatives funded by the Department of Energy to local earthquake awareness programs funded by FEMA. Often working on multiple projects in multiple mediums at once, I have been able to provide the AZGS with a consistent, professional, and pleasing design experience for both the viewing public and internal staff.

Cosanti Foundation, 2009

The Cosanti Foundation, created by Italian architect Paolo Soleri, is a non-profit organization dedicated to research in sustainable architecture, ecology, agriculture, and the ongoing study of Paolo Soleri’s architectural theories. Its main project is Arcosanti, an “Urban Laboratory” in the Arizona desert dedicated to creating and experimenting with Soleri’s theory of “arcology.” In 2009 I was brought on as a graphic and web designer to produce all event promotional material, multimedia, and web related work for Arcosanti and its overseeing Foundation. This included producing a new website, redesigning the Arcosanti logo, and producing video, print, and merchandise for major events.

O’Keefe communications, 2008

O’Keefe is an event and media productions company based in Washington, DC. Their client list includes Clark Construction, the American Society of Landscape Architects, the Smithsonian Institute, and the United States Postal Service. In 2008 I worked on a number of projects for them as a contracted graphic designer and Keynote presentation designer, creating visual IDs for speakers, designing event presentations, and preparing digital media resources for post-production. In certain cases I was able to design and carry through a project single-handedly, one such case being the 2008 Smithsonian Philatelic Achievement Awards Gala.

Laureate Education, 2007

Laureate produces online education material for 24 accredited institutions around the world, including Walden University. I was employed there as a contractor to fill a number of roles including logo design, marketing and branding design, template creation and implementation for online course presentations, and audio editing for course lectures. I worked under multiple managers in various departments in a deadline-driven atmosphere. I have consistently worked with them as a freelancer since, designing course presentations and animations from blank initial mockups and scripts.

Self-Employed Freelancer, 2004-Present

As a freelancer I have worked with government organizations, consulting agencies, non-profit organizations, published novelists, musicians, and artists of all kinds. My portfolio includes a wide range of projects: from Recovery-funded government grants, to startup social networking sites, to rock festivals. I tailor my approach to my client’s needs, keeping a strong line of communication with the client at all times, and am often able to provide an all-in-one design package or solution around a single theme or concept.
